Frozen Pipes Cause Damage to Garage

It's not uncommon for the temperature to dip into the single digits and even below zero in the Naugatuck Valley, causing pipes to freeze, especially when accompanied by strong winds. The pressure and expansion of the ice inside of the pipes builds up and eventually leads to a pipe burst, which is often not discovered until the water melts and begins to drip.

When the pipes burst on a Sunday morning in this garage, the homeowners turned off all water immediately and then called their plumber as well as SERVPRO. The SERVPRO of Shelton, Naugatuck crew was on the scene within 2 hours after receiving the call. After removing all of the wet sheetrock and insulation, we used heaters to keep the garage warm and dehumidifiers to remove the remaining moisture. We were able to complete the job by Tuesday.
